Two Hard Pool Cover Installs: What We Found On Site
Recent installations in North Narrabeen, NSW and Hampton, VIC highlight the realities of working with existing pools; and why engineering and planning are critical to achieving the right result particularly for hard pool covers.
North Narrabeen, NSW
Working with Aquabright’s customer in North Narrabeen, the project initially focused on replacing an underwater pit-mounted roller and controller system.
The existing pit walls were significantly out of shape, requiring the team to pack out the F003 underwater roller mount to achieve a level installation. A cable cover was also installed to complete the system.
With the install of the roller complete the customer had been keen to reuse their existing slat cover to help their reno budget. Unfortunately, the existing PVC slat cover was found to be too deteriorated to reuse, meaning a replacement cover will now be required to complete the system.
Underwater pit mounted roller replacement and controller replacement
Hampton, VIC
The Hampton, VIC installation with Swimart Cheltenham was a more technically driven install, requiring a tailored engineering solution to suit the pool layout. This installation replaced an existing Daisy solar cover and roller, delivering a fully upgraded hard cover system designed specifically for the site.
Before
After
The system included:
PVC White indoor slat cover
Roller system with controller
15m x 3.614m cover plus separate spa section
To achieve the correct roller position, a custom-engineered post was designed and fabricated, then securely bolted to the pool step. This ensured the roller height, alignment, and load distribution were all correctly set for smooth operation.
Importantly, this wasn’t a guesswork solution; the post and positioning were based on engineering drawings, ensuring accuracy before installation and confidence in long-term performance.

Given the pool and spa configuration, controlling lateral movement of the cover was critical. Infinity Overflow Guides were also installed along the cover edge to prevent it from drifting into adjacent sections.
These installs highlight the importance of careful engineering and planning, particularly for non-standard pool layouts. Existing infrastructure often needs adjustment or customisation, and precise roller positioning is essential to ensure long-term performance. Accessories such as overflow guides also play a key role in maintaining smooth and controlled operation.
